What is Litecoin?

Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency in many regards similar to Bitcoin. Coins are created and transferred using an open source cryptographic protocol and are not managed by any central authority. Thanks to the adoption of Segregated Witness, and the Lightning Network, Litecoin has some technical advantages over Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies. It is capable of handling a greater number of transactions in a given time and thus reducing potential bottlenecks, as seen with Bitcoin. Also, payment cost of Litecoin is nearly zero and itโ€™s payment speed is approximately four times faster than Bitcoin.
Litecoin was released via an open-source client on GitHub on October 7, 2011 by Charlie Lee, a former Google employee. The Litecoin network went live on October 13, 2011. It was a fork of the Bitcoin Core client, differing primarily by having a decreased block generation time (2.5 minutes), increased maximum number of coins, different hashing algorithm (scrypt, instead of SHA-256), and a slightly modified GUI. During the month of November 2013, the aggregate value of Litecoin experienced massive growth which included a 100% leap within 24 hours. Litecoin reached a $1 billion market capitalization in November 2013.

What is Litecoin Faucet?

Litecoin faucets are a reward system, in the form of a website or app, that dispenses rewards in the form of a litoshi, which is a hundredth of a millionth LTC, for visitors to claim in exchange for completing a captcha or task as described by the website. There are also faucets that dispense alternative cryptocurrencies. Rewards are dispensed at various predetermined intervals of time. Faucets usually give fractions of a litecoin, but the amount will typically fluctuate according to the value of litecoin.
Faucets are a great way to help introduce new people to litecoin, or to your favourite altcoin. Many faucets provide information to newbies as well as offering them some free coins so that they can try before they buy, experimenting with a test transaction or two before putting real money on the line. Since this whole area is so new and a bit scary to some people, who perhaps dont quite trust it with their hard earned cash yet, this is a great way to promote digital currency and bring in new users.
